ReflectionsThe Value of a Short Reflection
Some of the most meaningful thoughts don't arrive during long conversations or after reading another book.
Read the storyAwakening the Light Body, the work of Orin and DaBen

Last year I studied the Awakening the Light Body, which is the work of Orin and DaBen.
It has been fascinating and if I’m completely truthful, often a bit baffling!
The course introduced me to a series of energy centres that are used during guided inner journeys. Beginning with the Nu’a, I learned to work progressively through these centres, becoming aware of the flow of energy, subtle changes in sensation and different states of consciousness.
At first, I was probably more concerned with remembering what to do next than understanding why I was doing it.
Only afterwards did I begin to appreciate that the most important part of the practice wasn’t about learning a sequence of unusual names or trying to have a particular experience. It was learning to become more receptive and aware of subtle changes within myself.
My work depends upon awareness.
As a counsellor and energy healer, I listen not only to what somebody says but to what might sit underneath their words. Through energy healing and intuitive development, that listening has expanded in another direction.
During a session I might become aware of a physical sensation, an image, an emotion, maybe a word or a sense that my attention is being drawn somewhere else. Sometimes those impressions prove meaningful to the person I’m working with and other times I just notice them and let them pass.
One of the things I am learning is that greater sensitivity isn't necessarily about receiving more information.
It’s about becoming more discerning about the information I receive and that is where I can see a connection between the light body work and the way I already work with people.
The inner journeys encourage me to become still, observe rather than immediately interpret and allow an experience to develop without trying to force it or think about it.
Those are surprisingly useful skills when sitting beside another human being!!
This is difficult to describe because it belongs to a spiritual rather than scientific model of the human energy system.
The teachings of Orin and DaBen show the light body as an expanded energetic state developed through working with a series of vibrational energy centres and higher light body centres. Like working with the main 7 chakras we’re all familiar with but they are different energy centres.
My own interest is about exploring what happens through the practice.
Do I become more present? Can I remain centred more easily? Can I notice subtle information without immediately trying to make sense of it, because the temptation is to want to make sense of it! Can I distinguish between intuition, thought and expectation more clearly?
Those questions are relevant to the direction my work is taking.
My work has changed a lot over the years and it continues to change quickly too.
I began as a counsellor many moons ago and I’ve spent years sitting with people through anxiety, grief, trauma, change and all the complicated experiences that happen as human beings.
Energy healing has always been at the forefront of who I am from a child, but wasn’t necessarily a primary service I offered.
Then intuition was starting to get lively! And I did many many courses and healing days to see what I was capable of.
Then mediumistic development training. I dipped in and out of that but for the past 4 years have dedicated myself to weekly classes to develop as a healing medium.
And I’ve discovered that these parts of me don't remain conveniently separated once somebody enters my Healing Room.
A conversation can become healing. Then healing can bring an intuitive impression and something I sense will open a conversation that needs to happen.
My counselling experience helps me remain grounded within all of it.
Rather than deciding which part of myself I’m supposed to use (which I battled with for years let me tell you), I’m learning to allow all of of those skills to sit alongside one another and respond to the person in front of me.
The light body work feels like another part of that exploration.
This week I began the next stage: Radiance: Self Exciting Light and Filling in the Frequencies, a 20 week advanced course building on the Awakening the Light Body work.
And after the first evening last night, I had tons of questions!
What is Radiance?
What am I doing with the energy?
What does “Self Exciting” mean?
And what on earth are Vision, Precision, Intensity and Clarity and the other two frequencies?
Fortunately, asking questions is something I've never had much difficulty doing haha.
As I begin to understand it, this next stage isn't about learning another collection of energy centres. Instead it’s about becoming more skilful with the state of awareness I've already been developing.
Self Exciting explores remaining within that state with less effort and allowing the experience to flow rather than continually trying to create or control it.
Then comes work with different groups of subtle energy frequencies described as Vision, Precision, Intensity and Clarity. And I'm particularly curious about these😁
What interests me is becoming more discerning. Can I observe something without immediately interpreting it? Can I perceive greater detail with precision? Can I stay with an impression long enough to notice whether it changes or develops?
Because I’m interested in who we are beyond our human self. After all these years of counselling and energy healing, I'm still learning.
I'm currently studying more about the physical body and nervous system alongside my energy and intuitive development. One belongs to anatomy and physiology; another belongs to spiritual and experiential practice.
I’m curious and I want to understand more and I want to perceive more clearly.
I want to become skilful at knowing when to speak, when to question, when to place my hands, when to follow an intuitive impression — and when simply to remain quiet and allow something to unfold.
Most of all I want the work I do to be useful to the person lying on the couch or sitting opposite me.
So for the next twenty weeks I'll be exploring Radiance and I’ll be sharing some of the learning with you.
